basic instinct
Bass-ic Instinct
Whatever happened to Michael Dilkes,
Him and his double bass?
I remember his height and his curly black hair
But I just can’t remember his face
Miss Pimm, Head of Music, said we all had to learn
A musical instrument by the end of next term
As soon as my Michael laid his hands on the bass
I just had to follow, to be in his space
I’d always loved jazz and that oversized cello
A bass player’s got to be a really cool fellow
A girl so in love will do anything
To make the boy of her dreams give her number a ring
My height helped a lot, tallest girl in the class
I plucked second base, was I being an ass?
But Miss Pimm’s ideas were other than mine
Use the bow, girl! she yelled. Elbow up! Keep good time!
I dragged and I scraped, what a terrible noise
The things that girls do to get noticed by boys
My plan was a failure, I felt so alone
When Michael walked off with the girl on trombone
